Ghislaine Maxwell's lawyers are arguing for her release in a federal appeals court. The appeal focuses on a non-prosecution agreement between Jeffrey Epstein and federal prosecutors. A jury in Manhattan federal court found Maxwell guilty on sex-trafficking charges in December 2021, four days after her 60th birthday that Christmas. Alison Nathan, the judge who oversaw Maxwell's trial, sentenced her to 20 years in prison and issued a $750,000 fine. KOLKATA, Nov 14 (Reuters) - South Africa sense an opportunity to finally get rid of the choker's tag but the onerous task entails getting the better of the most successful team in the history of 50-overs World Cup, Australia, in Thursday's semi-final in Kolkata. "Hurt by a combination of bad luck and nerves in the business end of showpiece event, South Africa are pitted against a powerhouse who thrive in those big moments as Australia have demonstrated with five titles. South Africa, who have never progressed beyond the last four, are fretting over the availability of skipper Temba Bavuma, who is nursing a hamstring strain. They have looked more comfortable setting targets than chasing one though, and they will expect more penetration from their bowlers against a resurgent Australia. Regardless of how their group stage campaign ebbed and flowed, it came as no surprise when Australia hurled towards the knockout stages by stringing together seven wins in a row following that defeat by South Africa.

PUNE, India, Nov 9 (Reuters) - Australia coach Andrew McDonald believes Glenn Maxwell's breath-taking shotmaking, best illustrated by his incendiary double hundred in Monday's World Cup match against Afghanistan, will inspire a new generation of cricketers. Hobbled by cramp during the latter stages of his innings, Maxwell smacked 10 sixes and 21 fours in his batting pyrotechnics and McDonald said it would take time to fully appreciate the magnitude of the feat. McDonald said the all-rounder was impacting batsmanship like compatriot Ricky Ponting or South African stalwart AB de Villiers did in the past. "Players take the game forward every day, and the game is better today than it was yesterday," the coach said. "Glenn Maxwell will no doubt inspire a new generation with some outrageous shots..."That's the beauty about the game, and he stretched the boundary as did AB de Villiers and Ricky Ponting in their time as well.

Nov 8 (Reuters) - Afghanistan have rebounded from defeat at the World Cup and can do so again, coach Jonathan Trott said after Tuesday's three-wicket loss to Australia in Mumbai. Afghanistan had Australia reeling at 91-7 chasing 292 before Glenn Maxwell's unbeaten 201 snatched a remarkable victory that sealed a semi-final slot for the five-time champions. "We lost the New Zealand game pretty heavily and came back and won the next game," Trott told reporters. Afghanistan had won only one match in their two previous World Cup campaigns but have already won four of their eight matches in India so far. Spinners were bowling different lengths, he was hitting that," Trott said of Maxwell.

Maxwell was riding on the buggy following playing a round of golf ahead of their contest against the defending champions in Ahmedabad on Saturday, when he fell off the back. Cricket Australia's concussion protocols mean that Maxwell's condition will be monitored for a few days. I think it rattled everyone to be fair once it came to the conclusion there was a concussion and he was going to miss a game. Maxwell broke his leg in a freak accident at a birthday party in Melbourne last November and had also missed Australia's recent tour of South Africa with an ankle issue. Maxwell has been in superb form in the tournament and hit a 40-ball hundred against the Netherlands.

Maxwell broke his leg in November and missed Australia's recent tour of South Africa due to an ankle issue which affected his preparations for the tournament. The 35-year-old played the second spinner's role to perfection in the early matches but the swashbuckling batting, which earned him the nickname "Big Show", was not in evidence. "It's probably something I didn't set out to do," Maxwell said of his knock, which included eight sixes and nine fours. Thanks to rapid hundreds by Maxwell and David Warner, Australia racked up 399-8 and bundled out their opponents for 90 in 21 overs to inflict on them the biggest defeat in World Cup history. "It's like a perfect game, when you get 400 and bowl a team out for under 100," Maxwell said.

Tesla CEO Elon Musk pledged in 2014 not to "initiate patent lawsuits against anyone who, in good faith, wants to use our technology." The company says the legal action comes in response to a lawsuit that Cap-XX originally filed against Tesla subsidiary Maxwell Technologies in 2019 for patent infringement. Like Cap-XX, Maxwell makes capacitors for electric vehicles that increase their energy-storage capabilities. The patents that Cap-XX allegedly infringed relate to electrodes used in supercapacitors, which Tesla called the "primary source of the device's power capabilities." Tesla said the electrodes used in Cap-XX's supercapacitors work in the same way as Maxwell's patented technology.

NEW YORK, June 30 (Reuters) - The U.S. government has urged an appeals court to uphold Ghislaine Maxwell's conviction and 20-year prison sentence for helping the disgraced late financier Jeffrey Epstein sexually abuse teenage girls. Epstein committed suicide at age 66 in August 2019 in a Manhattan jail cell, where he was awaiting trial for sex trafficking. Jeffrey Epstein hinted at his fallout with Donald Trump in an unaired interview, according to his brother. "He stopped hanging out with Trump when he realized Trump was a crook," Mark Epstein told Insider. Trump and Jeffrey Epstein were friends for years, and the nature of their fallout remains hazy. "And in that interview, Jeffrey said he stopped hanging out with Trump when he realized Trump was a crook." Jeffrey Epstein was arrested in July 2019 on sex-trafficking charges and died in jail several weeks later while awaiting trial.
Jeffrey Epstein's death in a federal jail was seen as a shocking Justice Department failure. But more than three years later, the office still hasn't released its report into the circumstances of Epstein's death. "We all took it by surprise," Mark Epstein told Insider. Barr tasked the Justice Department's inspector general, Michael Horowitz, and the FBI with investigating "the circumstances of Mr. Epstein's death." Mark Epstein told Insider that he spoke to his brother about once a month in the years before his death.
Maxwell, 61, is expected to present her legal arguments in a filing with the 2nd U.S. Epstein killed himself at age 66 in a Manhattan jail cell in August 2019, one month after being charged with sex trafficking. Maxwell is expected to claim that prosecutors charged her long after a five-year statute of limitations expired. At Maxwell's trial, the four accusers said Maxwell and Epstein at first made them feel welcome in their orbit before subjecting them into giving Epstein sexualized massages. Prosecutors are expected to respond to Maxwell's filing before the appeals court hears oral arguments.
News organizations, including Insider, are asking a court to unveil Sam Bankman-Fried's bail backers. Bankman-Fried's lawyers told the court earlier this month that the backers of his release should stay secret for their "privacy and safety." At Bankman-Fried's January 3 arraignment hearing, Kaplan had granted a request from Bankman-Fried's lawyers to keep the names and addresses of those two people under seal. Christian Everdell, one of Bankman-Fried's lawyers, also represented Maxwell in her criminal case. But lawyers representing the media organizations said the cases were significantly different.

"In the court's view, there's no reason to redact Doe 183 from the documents." And when Insider asked that lawyer about his work for Doe 183, a representative for Wexner responded, declining to comment. But if Doe 183 wins their fight to keep the documents redacted, their name and the context surrounding it would remain behind those blacked-out lines. While he never identified himself verbally, the transcript's cover sheet identifies him as an attorney representing Doe 183. Of those 21 documents, there are seven docket entries where Doe 183 is the sole Doe mentioned.
